Yesterday I met up with David Hackman and his friend from France. We went looking through UNSW to find some accomodation for her. I made a few jokes about stuff, and she didn't really understand some of them. I think I suggested she move to Redfern, because she was looking for somewhere cheap, and they'd just had riots there. She was a bit confused. Her English wasn't that good, which was probably why. David told her not to worry, because most English speakers didn't understand my jokes. Is that really the sort of joke that people wouldn't understand? I was trying hard not to be oblique. I've been trying much harder lately, although sometimes I forget. The riot one didn't strike me as strange at all. But then I am very weird, so maybe I can't recognise weirdness. Although, isn't the rule that it takes one to know one. I don't think that's true.
