Australia proposes ban on arbitrary groups, terrorist publications

Yikes. Howard's Cabinet has just approved an "Anti-terrorism" law that makes it illegal to be a member of any organisation the police/government decide is a terrorist organisation even if it isn't on the official list of terrorist organisations.

John Howard: "The Green Party is, for today only, a terrorist organisation. All members will be arrested and imprisoned for two weeks (because that's all the lousy Green senate would give us). What are you gonna do about it? Oh and hey. Since none of those Green's Party members will be able to vote for the next two weeks we've got the majority in the senate. So we'll change that two weeks to six months. Just because we can."

God bless democracy.

  1. “Mr Howard said the government had no plans at this stage to introduce secret trials for terrorist offences.”

Given his track record, I guess that means that they’ve already happened.

This makes me sick. its the most insidious law we’ve seen yet.. I was at kirribilli house today, and if I’d known about this, I would have bought rotten fruit.
