A Muslim guy has been sentenced in the US to 32 years in prison for stabbing a prison guard in the eye. The guard lost one, has only 40% vision in the other eye, and has some brain damage. It seems that the prisoner hadn't been restrained before the assault.
32 years seems like a hell of a long time to me. What he did was truly nasty, but a lot of nasty stuff happens in the US every day.
I wonder if the sentence has something to do with the fact that the prisoner is still on trial facing terrorism charges. And that this man was apparently the treasurer for al Qaeda back in the early 1990s. The prisoner said he wanted to steal the keys so he could ambush his attorneys, assault them, and then request new ones. His request to the judge for new attorneys had been denied.
Impartiality is a very shaky concept. Implicate yourself in dirty enough business, and no one will come to your defence, no matter how unjust the process is.
‘injust’?

I was thinking “injustice”. But you would say injustice is unjust, not injust.
