Last night I was sitting in the library reading about social science stuffo, and I noticed a little video/booklet box called "What did you do in the war mummy?" So, of course, I picked it up and had a read. There was a letter from an Australian nursing sister to her mum, written in 1918. She talked about the "swanky restaurant" she went to with a friend, and it's "swanky prices". I love the word swanky.
Indeedy ,I agree also, ‘cos you can say it Swan-KAY, like people sometimes say Par-TAY (although I’ve never been a fan of people saying Par-TAY especially)
