Debt Relief

This is so happy. The G-7 are saying they'll provide 100% debt relief to the poorest countries. When I read it I started crying. I so hope it works. I know the difficult position the IMF et al are in too.

  3. The G-7 is a group of the seven richest countries who meet together and talk about the problems you have when you have lots of money. The IMF is the International Monetary Fund, which lends money to poor (mostly) countries.

  4. Isn’t it great! I haven’t chucked out the newspaper yet. I want to check it each morning just to make sure the article is still there on the frontpage and it wasn’t all a dream …

  5. “Two million children will die needlessly between now and the next meeting in April. If rich countries are going to keep their promises to tackle obscene poverty they need to deliver – and deliver quickly.”

  6. That’s true and it’s a good point. But I don’t think that makes dropping the debt a bad thing. And 99% of those children would die even if the debt was cancelled today.
