Stata has such cute documentation. I think it must have been written by geeks and never edited by marketers. There are lots of funny little sidenotes, and discussions of how Stata is kind of crap at some things.
After showing me how to add together a column of numbers in just 18 lines of code using calcsum(), the Stata manual said this.
Rather than the Mata functions (calcsum() in this case) being private to the ado-file, you will be able to use calcsum() in your other ado-files. calcsum() will become a utility always available to you. Perhaps calcsum() is not deserving of this honor.
