Soy might contribute to cancer

Cancer patients are being urged to avoid soy food products due to fears they can cause tumours to grow faster.

I don't really know what to make of this. They don't actually quote the research. And a few months ago I had a look at the research on soy foods and cancer and couldn't find any evidence.

They're probably only talking about weirdo vegetarians like our house who have tofu and soy milk every day.

  1. I guess one could say that any prolonged imbalance in the body’s chemical processes can increase the risk of cancer.

  2. Sure. But they’re implying that even small amounts are bad. I suspect SMH may have exaggerated the findings a little.

  3. I remember reading an article [in the SMH, i think!] a few years ago saying that the soy=cancer link was all so much fiddling of the figures by meat industry lobbyists.

  4. That’s what I suspect too. I reckon probably most of the good things about soy are lies spread by the soy industry. And most of the bad thing are meat/dairy industry lies. I suppose that if the lies balance out then we’ll end up eating about the right amount.
