Money now and money then

I was thinking about the value of money today. I'm very poor at the moment. I have $2.54 in my bank and about $6 in the red cup in my room. Which might be less than I've had in many years. Right now I would struggle to give $2 away to someone I met on the street. But 6 years ago I would have been quite happy to give $100 away to the same person. If I gave away $2 I probably couldn't afford the bus to university. If I had a choice between giving $10 to charity this week, or $10,000 in 10 years I'd choose the $10,000.

The last few dollars are worth a lot. And there are many people you have to budget their last few dollars every week. Having to be careful about $2 isn't a nice thing. I'm glad there aren't many times in my life where I feel like I want to be that careful.
