- Adobe Reader
- Java browser plugin
- Openoffice
There is a special category of software, which people continue to use despite being crap. Adobe Reader has to top my list. And many days OpenOffice would have to rank up there as well. As awkward as Microsoft Office is, returning to it actually fills me with joy. Joy that it won't crash and that it's been sufficiently bug-tested that strange things won't happen. Of course, one can't really complain about free software... well you can. But it's not very diplomatic.
I would like to add,
windows media player,
Nero express,
windows photo viewer

ah but you don’t need to keep using windows media player, there are nice free alternatives like: Democracy or just Quicktime+iTunes. I love democracy player: open source + free + awesome = free awesome open source software.
hmmm, actually i guess neither will handle both video and audio in one program. Whatever happened to winamp? Didn’t that start handling video at one point? and VLC? I’ve never used it but i have heard good things, i think democracy is built on top of it. However i’m not sure if it does audio in addition to video.

Yep. Windows Media Player would be on the list for me, except I use iTunes instead. Some people can’t install iTunes though, because you need to be an administrator.
Winamp isn’t bad. Better than WMP, not as good as iTunes. I used it for years. I used XMMS for years as well, but then I somehow got hoocked on iTunes music library setup.
