Lawrence and I had our sci-fi night last night, but as usual didn't watch any sci-fi. We did watch Stranger Than Fiction though because we'd both heard over and over that it was really good. I'm probably the world's biggest Will Ferrell sceptic, so I was fairly sceptical. But I hadn't heard a single bad thing about it.
Bits of it were OK. The first two thirds I thought were pretty good. Kind of silly. But well scripted and the acting was actually reasonable. Maggie Gyllenhaal was great. But the last part was crap and ruined it.
I think maybe that's what you get when you take a half-baked idea and give it to a good script-writer. It was a nice little story, just a bit dumb. It wasn't funny either. The trailer had made it look like a comedy. An appalling Will-Ferrell-non-comedy sort of comedy, but still a comedy. Luckily for the movie, I think the makers of the trailer only used the worst parts of the film.
Luckily, we had two other films to follow this one which were much better. John Carpenter's Assault of Precinct 13 and Black Mask 2.
