Yahoo vs Google

A few days ago I started using Yahoo as my Firefox quick search instead of Google. I am happier with it and am going to keep it. I've never used Yahoo for search, even back when it was big. Now I reckon it is better though.

  1. Objectively or subjectively?

Glad to see someone has the fortitude to boycott Google.

  2. I haven’t done any testing. But there seems to be less junk in Yahoo. Like if search for “rails has_many”, the rails API page that talks about it is the first result in Yahoo but it isn’t even in Google’s first ten.

  3. I agree, I’ve noticed that Google’s results aren’t as useful nowadays as I previously found them to be.

They should really be taking notice of this, especially regarding programming resources. After all, the dev community were the lot that kindly spread the word and made Google big in the first place.

  4. Yeah. I guess it’s a hard thing to manage. I read a pretty interesting article once about the guy who’s in charge of tweaking the search ordering. It is crazy stuff.

  5. I agree,

google isn’t what it was used to it anymore. Often I find that Google find websites that are not relevant or simple don’t even has the words in the page I was searching for in the first place. Often I find myself adding double quotes because google things he is smart and likes to split up words to…

I think google needs to add a switch ‘Old style search results’ or something..
