Councilly Worked Forests

Something I love - if you get them enough seeds and watering cans, a bunch if badly paid, bored as peanuts council workers can create a forest that's every bit as good as any forest that's been around for hundreds of years. I think I've talked about the birds at Newcastle uni before. They don't care at all that their home was professionally landscaped by some guy sitting in an office. They just enjoy hanging out in the deliberately native trees and bumming around in the deliberately native scrub. It's wonderful.

  1. I’m up for being nice to the birds. Birds are quality.

Unless they happen to me pigeons. They always crap on ppl. Or indian mynas. They make annoying noises. Or magpies. They always look like they’re conspiring against you. Come to think of it….

    …birds are SO overrated.

  2. Hey did you die? Are you at home. Isn’t university finished or did you haev to go there? You are still blogging so I’ll assume you aren’t dead. And I really think those not burgers might be having a laxative effect.

  3. I wasn’t thinking so much about the birds as about how easy it is to create wonderful places. God spent thousands of years building these wonderful great forests. But he doesn’t mind letting us do the same sorts of things in a few days of intense landscaping. But it’s good for the birds too.

I like most birds. But I don’t like seagulls, man pigeons because they’re so chauvinist, or the smelly white storks they have at the botanic gardens.
