Frisbee Dives

Frisbee tonight. I haven't played for three weeks now, and it was good to be back. I didn't play super hot shit, but I did some good dives. And now I've got rocks in my arm and bloody grazes on my knees. I did two dramatic dive-falls. And they were both useful even.

I dropped it lots of other times, and threw a crapload of crap throws.

But we won, despite me.

My economics exam today was a bit nasty. Lots of vague theoretical questions. Won't do great, but I reckon I'll pass it.

On an even less lively note, I wish I was better at being normal.

Rushing to frisbee

I have a bit of an embarassing story about getting to frisbee on Monday. It's embarassing for two reason. I was catching a train from Asquith. I had to get to St Leonards. The train was late, but eventually showed up. I hopped on and started reading my book.

A moment later and looked up. I'd just passed Normanhurst. I thought "Hmmm. Dear me. I'll have to get off at Thornleigh and catch a train back to Hornsby." I was worried I was going to be late. We got to Thornleigh, but the train didn't slow down. Just kept on training.

I began to suspect that I'd got on an express. I started to concoct damage-minimisation strategies. I thought I could get off at Epping and catch a train back to Hornsby. Or I could catch a bus from Epping to Chatswood. Or even a taxi. I tried to work out how much being on time was worth to me.

Then I had the clever idea of taking the express all the way to Central and coming back to St Leonards. I wasn't sure how long I'd have to wait for a train back from Epping. I tried to evaluate in my head all the different trip times and frequency of various expresses and normal trains. I started adjusting times by probabilities and adding them all up. I tried to take into account the extra goodness of getting to go across the Harbour Bridge again - the third time in one day. The express had got stuck behind a slow train, and I was worried that it would go slowly all the way to Central. But I was also worried that I'd get off at Epping and there'd be no train for 20 minutes. I still wasn't sure as the train approached Epping.

Then the train blasted through Epping station without a thought. I was confused for a moment, and then realised that it made everything much better. I didn't have to make any choices any more. So I sat down and continued reading my book.

After we went through Strathfield I realised the train was completely empty. I started thinking about ways I could speed up the process once I got off the train. I wasn't in my frisbee clothes. I had to change my shoes, and change into my shorts, and that would have taken me another five minutes once I got to the oval. It took a little while to build up the courage, but I did it. I went to the upstairs part of the carriage so that no one standing on platforms would see me as the train went through. I laid out everything I needed. And quickly got changed. It was so quick. If someone had been sitting next to me I doubt they would even have noticed.

But it's still embarassing. Especially when you have friends like Tom and Robert, who might not ever speak to me now they know this.

I was a couple of minutes late for frisbee. But I was able to dump my bag and run straight on the field, because I was already prepared.

No Adventures, No Frisbee

I haven't had an adventure or a frisbee with Robert in far too long. It's been weeks and weeks. Someone should do something about it. It's just not right.

We love frisbee

I never thought I'd find anything more fun than standing around in a park throwing a frisbee. But I did. Running around like a maniac in a park and throwing a frisbee. Sheer bliss.

Who wants to play frisbee later tonight? Is anyone not at Soul Survivor?

Good Frisbeeing and Picnicking

We had a tops night of frisbee, food and of course, fun. Most of the people I expected might show up didn't. And a fair few who I didn't expect did. Most of the evening was spent with one or more of the many frisbees brought for the occasion. Some more of it was spent sitting around drinking cheap scotch and cola, cheap wine and guacamole out of the orange Franklin.

Sometimes I wonder if my emails get through to everyone I send them to. I sent the email to heaps. But only about 4 people responded. One of them lived in Canberra and one of them lived in Canada. And one was from Dave at work telling me I was weird (in as many words). Oh yes. And the fourth was from Robert. Oh oh. And Andrew Lorien. And Allyson in America. But I probably emailed 40 people. And it had pictures and coloured fonts and everything. It even had a weather report. No gaudy marketing device was spared. I should have emailed more people overseas. I got the best reponses from them.

But it was great fun. And apart from running with Tom at 5:30 in the morning, I don't have anything to do tomorrow. So it doesn't matter that I'm having a latish night. And might be hung over from the cheap scotch. Sooo cheap. Cheaper than Red Bull.

Do you spell picnicing like "picnicing" or "picnicking"? Or would you use a different word altogether?

Oh yes. And today uni was great. All my classes were fun. And people were friendly in my social science tutorial. So much more talkative than in all my other ones. And I didn't do anything silly in front of a large group of people - like sit in rotten banana or have some sort of other food thrown at me. That hasn't actually happened to be yet, but I'm rather worried that it will.

Scary Park

We played some Lit Frisbee™ at Scary Park. It's a dark spot, even with a big moon. We tried turning the frisbee-mounted mini-torch off a couple of times, but people tended to miss the frisbee or get hit in the head.

The others have gone to Magic Kebab for the best chicken kebabs in the world. Magic Kebab falafel rolls aren't the best in the world sadly, so I've come home for a toothbrush and some sleep.

I love sleep.

Fluoro Frisbee

Howie and I bought a glow in the dark frisbee at lunch. It's awesome. We stuck it in Howie's bag to test out it's capabilities, and it was pretty tops. Very bright. Although we're worried that it doesn't like a lot of glow stamina. It didn't take very long for it to stop glowing. Fortunately we already have ideas about how to counter this problem. I went to a few different shops afterwards, to see if we could find an LED torch to gaffer to the bottom of the frisbee. Party strobe LED torches are only $10 at Gowings. If I had any money, I'd get one.

Late Night Frisbee

Tom, Howie, Jo, Chris, David, Jem, Helen and I all went to the Blue Gum for drinks. We drunk some stuff. The bartender who is normally terribly rude, was terribly friendly. He didn't even want to see my ID, because he remembered who I was.

I wore my Rough Edges shirt. No one liked it much, which was good. It was much harder than I'd expected. Especially in a pub with all sorts of people in nice clothes. Not having any money is a hard life for lots of reasons, and having to wear ugly clothes is just one of them. But it's not one I've ever thought would be that bad until tonight. I don't know if I want to wear it again. I'm tempted to wear it to The Basement or something, for some real humiliation. Or I could try and dress myself entirely from Lifeline for a month. The thought of doing that scares the crap out of me.

After Blue Gum we went to McDonald's. I couldn't eat much, and Helen and Jo had to go anyway, so we came back to Hornsby to look for frisbee spots. We got distracted. After failing to find a way of pulling out the poles they're using the block the road near Hornsby Hospital, we gave up and headed up to Mt Colah to see if the rumour we'd heard of all-night lighting at Foxglove Oval was true. It wasn't. We frisbeed in the car park for a bit, but there wasn't enough light. So we came back to Hornsby and played in the library car park for an hour and a bit. We all got better. Just like always.

I love frisbee

Yes I do indeed. Although people do get hurt. I dived for a catch this afternoon and now both my knees are really bruised. I'll need to watch some 70s action films so I can brush up on my jump-dive-roll skills for the next frisbee game.
